This is a unique opportunity for a BSc/MSc student intern to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of pharmaceutical sciences, process modeling and data science. In this role, you will be part of the digital transformation, driving model-driven decision-making and optimizing the drug development process. This experience will allow you to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting, collaborate with experts from various fields, and contribute to innovative solutions in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

About the Role

Your responsibilities:

  • Integrate the theoretical Capped Drucker-Prager model into a real-world industrial setting at Novartis.
  • Adapt the model using FEM tools (e.g. Comsol Multiphysics) to simulate the physical phenomena occurring during the tablet compaction process, including the analysis of mechanical stresses and thermal effects.
  • Calibrate the model parameters to match empirical data from the production environment.
  • Evaluate if the model accurately reflects the behavior of the compaction machinery and the properties of the tablets.
  • Prepare and present research findings in a final presentation and report.

Minimum requirements:

  • BSc/MSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical/Mechanical/Process engineering, Material Sicences or similar.
  • Knowledge of Capped Drucker-Prager model.
  • Good communication skills (English) and data visualization skills.
  • Flexible and open minded.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with multiple teams, ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and multicultural environment.

Of advantage:

  • Experience with Comsol Multiphyisics software.
  • Experience in data science applied to scientific problems.
  • Experience in programing languages like Python.
